Review + Giveaway: Seeker by Veronica Rossi

Seeker by Veronica Rossi

Last year Rossi won me over with her new YA series opener RIDERS, an action-packed, thrill ride featuring the four horsemen of the Apocalypse and a mysterious girl leading them into a battle of supernatural proportions. SEEKER, the second in the duology, surpassed all my expectation and should definitely be on fans of the genre’s TBR lists.

Summary

When Daryn claimed she was seeing visions during her sophomore year of high school, no one believed the truth. She wasn't losing her mind, she was gaining the Sight the ability to see the future. If she just paid attention to the visions, they'd provide her with clues and show her how she could help people. Really help them. Daryn embraced her role as a Seeker. The work she did was important. She saved lives.

Until Sebastian.

Sebastian was her first and worst mistake.

Since the moment she inadvertently sealed him in a dark dimension with Samrael the last surviving demon in the Kindred guilt has plagued her. Daryn knows Sebastian is alive and waiting for help. It's up to her to rescue him. But now that she needs the Sight more than ever to guide her, the visions have stopped.

Daryn must rely on her instincts, her intelligence, and on blind faith to lead the riders who are counting on her in search of Sebastian. As they delve into a shadowy realm where nothing is as it seems and where Samrael is steadily amassing power, Daryn faces the ultimate test. Will she have to become evil to destroy evil? The very fate of humankind rests in the answer.

My Review

SEEKER immediately grabs a readers attention with its excellent characterization, which now includes both Daryn and Gideon’s alternating perspectives.

Their battle against the demons continues and Rossi knows how to add tension with a combination of danger, action, and romance.  In a shadowy realm where nothing is as it seems, the battle lines have been drawn and we can’t help but wonder if everyone will make it out again or ever be the same.

Daryn is so fierce in this installment and I loved getting to know her. Loyal, badass, and dedicated to the horsemen, she is a terrific heroine to follow. Rossi makes her believably flawed and relatable. I admired her strong sense of faith even when so many questions plagued her.

Gideon and his bond with fellow horsemen are one of the continuing highlights of this series. Seeing the guys together and their growing camaraderie was fantastic. And, the powerful horses each have such unique personalities. Rossi introduced us to each in RIDER and their distinctive abilities, with SEEKER the banter and powerful bond between rider and their steed continues and plays a huge part in what makes this duology so enjoyable.

The romance is the slow burn kind with such great dialogue between characters. There’s plenty of danger and action throughout but this is one series the romance does not disappoint.

The shadowy realm where much of the battle takes place had me questioning everything. What was real and was not, keeping me on edge. It was a perfect landscape for a supernatural battle and SEEKER paints a vivid picture, making you feel as if you were there with Daryn, Gideon and the gang.

This is my first series with Rossi and I love the way she writes her YA characters, fleshing them out with some of the best voices I’ve come across recently.

RIDER and SEEKER make for some fantastic reading in the young adult genre and is highly recommended.
