This is a stand alone novel that is an adult spin-off of the Lux Series

Book Summary:

He’s arrogant, domineering, and... To. Die. For.

Hunter is a ruthless killer. And the Department of Defense has him firmly in their grasp, which usually doesn’t chafe too badly because he gets to kill bad guys. Most of the time he enjoys his job. That is, until he’s saddled with something he’s never had to do before: protect a human from his mortal enemy.

Serena Cross didn’t believe her best friend when she claimed to have seen the son of a powerful senator turn into something... unnatural. Who would? But then she witnesses her friend’s murder at the hands of what can only be an alien, thrusting her into a world that will kill to protect their secret.

Hunter stirs Serena’s temper and her lust despite their differences. Soon he’s doing the unthinkable—breaking the rules he’s lived by, going against the government to keep Serena safe. But are the aliens and the government the biggest threats to Serena’s life… or is it Hunter? Summary and image: Goodreads.

Why You May Like The Book: Obsession can be considered a fabulous gift from author Jennifer L. Armentrout to all her Adult Lux Fans, and it is of course the highly anticipated New Adult spin off of the series. Fan’s of Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Lux series finally get to find out more about the mysterious Arum and their connection to the Luxen all the while enjoying some fun romantic suspense.

The Setting: Obsession takes place in the same world as Daemon and Katy's Lux series, only in this story we are treated to a rare look at the world of the Arum's, the arch rivals of the Luxen. As a large chunk of the book's setting takes place while Hunter and Serena are in hiding, the reader is treated to some fantastic one on one verbal banter between Serena and Hunter. Set in such close quarters, there was nary a dull moment as they both battle against their attraction to one another.

Summary:  In Obsession we meet Hunter, a ruthless hired killer, working for the Department of Defense. Oh by the way, Hunter just happens to be one of The Arum. He’s bold, bad, sexy, and yes 100% Alien. When Serena Cross accidentally sees a deadly crime committed against her friend, a crime that involves not only the son of a powerful senator but something other... something Alien, Hunter is put in charge of protecting Serena from any danger. But what Serena is only now discovering is there is a war out there between two deadly races, Alien races. The Arum and The Luxen. Enemies to each other and possibly Humans as well. Serena must decide if she can trust Hunter, all the while trying to stay alive long enough to help solve the crime committed against her friend. Serena is thrust into the secret world of The Arum and The Luxen, and one of them is willing to kill her in order to protect their secret. As growing attraction between Hunter and Serena begins, a new threat suddenly appears. Hunter may just have to break the rules he lives by in order to keep Serena safe from not only The Luxen, and the government, but also himself.

My Thoughts: I have to say I am a big fan of Jennifer L. Armentrout's Lux Series. I absolutely loved her characters and storyline in that series, so of course I had to try her New Adult book Obsession! I wasn't sure if I could be won over, being a fan of Daemon and the Luxen, but Hunter's characters was great. Cast in a similar style as Daemon, Hunter had plenty of wit and charm all his own, albeit a more grown up, adult version. For those of you who love the 'verbal sparring' that Jennifer L. Armentrout is so popular for, you will not be disappointed in this book.

Characters: I think adult fans of Jennifer's Luxen series will have great fun reading about the Arum in this stand alone novel, and new readers will be treated to a look into the world of the Arum and the Luxen. Watching as Hunter, an arrogant and deadly Arum, gets his world turned upside down by a mere Human, was fabulous fun. Serena is sassy and spirited, and able to keep up with Hunter and them some.

Swoon Level: Amore. Obsession is geared towards a more mature and adult reading audience.

The Romance: The Romance is definitely hot in Obsession. As a couple, I thought Hunter and Serena were a great match for each other and enjoyed watching the sparks fly.

Swoon Quote: “Even with all the crazy stuff happening recently, beneath the sorrow and the anger, I was still a red-blooded, twenty-three-year-old woman sitting in front of a man, who may not be a hundred percent human but had to have caused a panty-dropping crisis across the universe.”

― Jennifer L. Armentrout, Obsession

AND
“Somehow, in the relatively short time I’d known Serena, she had wiggled her way into my cold body. She was my light, my warmth, and I wasn’t ready to let her go.”

― Jennifer L. Armentrout, Obsession

What I Liked: I really enjoyed finding out more about the Arum, and loved the unique abilities that Hunter had as an Arum. The sexy verbal sparring and witty banter that went on between Hunter and Serena throughout the story was great too.

What I Wished It Had More Of: I think Jennifer L. Armentrout's Lux series spoiled me because I was hoping for a little more Alien interaction and secondary characters in the storyline.

The End: I really enjoyed reading Obsession. It's best suited to those readers who like a book with a strong Romantic element to it and enjoy a Paranormal/Alien setting. New readers get a look inside the world of the Arum and the Luxen, fans get some grown-up romance and to find out more about the Arum.

My Rating: 4 stars. I really liked it!
